NaNoWriMo: What Is It?

It’s the first week of #Nanowrimo and most of the authors are already in the process of writing their little hearts out. If you’ve never heard of NaNoWriMo, but have been seeing posts about it everywhere and you’re wondering what in the world it is. Then this is the post for you!

What is NaNoWriMo?

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing. On November 1, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30.

Why do authors sign up and join in?

In all honesty, the main reason that I’ve found for authors to join in NaNoWriMo is to get writing completed and in doing so have some fun with other writers. The main goal is to hit that 50,000-word mark and most authors that I’ve talked to say it’s a great feeling to get to that magical word count. There is no winner and a loser when it comes to NaNoWriMo, the main goal is to get people to write every day. Which is a great concept. There are discounts that are given to the ones that do complete the 50,000 words in the month of November. Some of which are fantastic! A discount on Scrivener is well worth trying to get get to that 50,000 mark.

More about NaNoWriMo

What I really love about this program is that there isn’t an age limit. There’s even a young writers program. Other things they offer are virtual write-ins and writing sprints. These are just a few of the fun things that you can do while being part of this fantastic mission to write 50,000 words in one month. They also encourage to continue after the month of November and edit your book as well.
